EXPECTATIONS

WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS (everyday)
  • Assignment Notebook (provided by school)
  • Three ring binder (ther will be many handouts which will be kept in your binder along with notes, labs, and homework) I suggest either one inch binder just for Science or a larger 2 or 3 inch binder with a section for Science.
  • Pencil and Pen (NO, red or pink ink)
  • Caluculator (nothing fancy, one that adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides)


CLASS RULES

Be Responsible
  • Come to class on time
  • Bring all necessary materials to class
  • Complete assignments according to the date they are due
  • Plan to stay after school if you are having difficulty in class
  • Prepare for all tests and quizzes
  • Ask questions if you are unsure
  • Participate during class discussion

Be Respectful
  • Do not talk when someone else or teh teacher is speaking
  • Be polite; it is important to say "please" and "thank you"
  • Pay attention during class - that means stay focused on the task at hand
  • Do not use words that put down others
  • Raise your hand to speak
  • Distracting other students during class is totally unacceptable


DISCIPLINE (agreed upon by all students in the class)

  • First Offense - Verbal warning from teacher
  • Second Offense - Stand outside classroom
  • Third Offense - Silent Lunch
  • Fourth Offense - Office

GRADE BREAKDOWN

  • 10% - CLASS PARTICIPATION
  • 15% - HOMEWORK
  • 20% - QUIZ
  • 25% - LABS / PROJECTS
  • 30% - TEST
  • EXTRA CREDIT - 1 point per assignment with a max of 5 per semester (added to final grade)
    • Science in the News: students must orally present information about science from a recent newspaper article, magazine, radio, or TV report and be ready to address questions from the teacher or other classmates.
